A Season to Seek the God Who Speaks
December 3, 2025 | 12-minute read
Welcome to December, friends!
This month’s observance might surprise you — Spiritual Literacy Month.
At first glance, the title can sound a little…well…New Age-y. And yes, its original roots leaned toward broad “spiritual exploration.”
But here’s something I believe wholeheartedly:
True spirituality has only one Source — the God Who created us, loves us, and still speaks today.
Where the world searches for mystical signs or “higher energy,” we as Christians already know the Author of life personally — and He invites us to know Him more deeply through His Word, His Spirit, and yes…even through dreams and angelic encounters.
So today, let’s reclaim Spiritual Literacy Month for the Kingdom of God.
Let’s celebrate a faith that is alive, relational, and full of wonder.
Everyday Angels: God’s Messengers in Our Midst

(Connecting Book: Everyday Angels, by Charity Virkler Kayembe & Joe Brock)
Many Believers know angels exist — Scripture is full of them! — but we often imagine that angelic encounters were only for Bible times.
Yet Hebrews 1:14 reminds us they are “ministering spirits” sent to help God’s people today.
This book explores what Biblical angelic interaction looks like — not worship, not fascination, but partnership under God’s direction.
How This Truth Shapes My Faith
A lot of Christians believe angels were only for “Bible times,” or that paying attention to them is somehow wrong.
But Scripture doesn’t support that idea.
If God created angels as “ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation” (Hebrews 1:14), then why would He suddenly stop sending them?
I’ve seen God’s supernatural help firsthand in my own family.
When my grandparents bought their home in the 1950s, a man at the bank approved the loan and helped them secure the house — even though money was tight.
My grandpa wanted to thank him afterward, but when he called… the bank insisted no employee by that name had ever worked there.
We may never know the full story, but it certainly reminds me of Hebrews 13:2 — “…some have entertained angels without realizing it.”
Angels are God’s messengers, and they’re still very much on assignment.
Scripture shows how God sends them to protect us (Psalm 91:11), to deliver news as Gabriel did (Luke 1:35), and to communicate clearly with people — Abraham, Daniel, and many others. Those encounters weren’t rare or mythical. They were practical and purposeful.
But here’s an essential distinction:
Christians do not worship angels — we worship the God Who made them (Colossians 2:18).
Angels are servants of the Most High, not objects of devotion. We honor their role, but our hearts remain fixed on Jesus — the One Who commands them on our behalf.
And that truth? It gives me comfort.
Because I know God still moves.
He still sends help.
He still watches over His children — sometimes through unseen hands.
Hearing God through Your Dreams

(Connecting Book: Hearing God Through Your Dreams, by Charity Kayembe & Dr. Mark Virkler)
Dreams fill the Bible — Joseph, Daniel, Solomon, Joseph (of Nazareth)…
God has long used dreams to speak when we slow down enough to listen.
This book teaches how to discern God’s voice from the noise of imagination — firmly rooted in Scripture, not superstition.
When God Whispers While I Sleep
I’ve had so many times when God has spoken to me in dreams.
During the day, I’m often too busy, too distracted — too much noise to tune in. So the Lord uses the stillness of night to guide, comfort, correct, and encourage me.
I love that God can still whisper while we sleep. And I love that He equips us to recognize His messages, not just receive them.
Dream interpretation gets a bad reputation among Believers sometimes, as if it belongs only to New Age circles.
It doesn’t.
God started it and showed us that we were free to do it using the patriarchs in the Bible as examples.
God sent both the dreams and the interpretation.
I’m not an expert at understanding every symbol or scene, but I’ve invested in learning from Christian authors I trust.
Because if God is speaking, I want to know what He’s saying.
Hearing God: A Lifestyle of Communion

(Connecting Book: Hearing God: For Intimacy, Healing, Creativity, Meditation, and Dream Interpretation, by Dr. Mark Virkler & Patti Virkler)
God’s voice isn’t reserved for pastors, prophets, or Biblical heroes. Jesus said, “My sheep hear My Voice.” (John 10:27)
This book helps Believers recognize God’s gentle whisper in everyday life — through Scripture, a nudge during prayer, or that peace that surpasses understanding.
Learning to Recognize My Father’s Voice
Why did God create mankind? Because He wanted a family to pour His love into.
He didn’t set us on earth and walk away. He wants a relationship — the kind of closeness a devoted father has with his children.
So yes, He speaks. All the time. We’re just not always quiet enough to listen.
I’ll admit — I’m still learning to discern His voice. Some days, I recognize Him instantly. Other days, I’m unsure…
Was that God? Or just me?
But if the Creator of the universe is speaking, I want to hear Him — so I can follow Him.
That’s why I lean into Dr. Virkler’s practical approach: tune in, listen, and respond.
I’m still growing, still practicing, but it’s worth every step — because learning to recognize God’s voice truly changes everything.
Prayers That Heal the Heart

We all carry wounds.
Some are physical, visible in the mirror — but others are deeper, tucked away where no one sees: emotional, spiritual, soul-level wounds that shape how we walk through the world.
This book focuses on freedom — breaking destructive patterns, releasing buried pain, and letting God transform what once harmed us into something redeemed — all through the power of prayer.
The Healer of Every Hidden Hurt
Every scar has a story — and God writes redemption into each one.
Internal scars can be the most painful: rejection, loss, insecurity, betrayal, shame, trauma… things we’ve learned to hide but never truly heal.
I speak from experience — there are parts of my story only Jesus could reach.
Prayer isn’t just comfort. It’s connection. It’s a direct line to the One Who restores.
God still binds up the brokenhearted. He still lifts the weary. He still heals the wounds no one else sees.
We don’t have to figure it out alone.
Healing isn’t self-help — it’s God-help.
Overflow of the Spirit

(Connecting Book: Overflow of the Spirit, by Charity Kayembe & Dr. Mark Virkler)
The Holy Spirit isn’t distant or abstract — He is God within us, empowering creativity, guiding decisions, strengthening our faith, giving wisdom beyond what we see or understand.
This book helps us shift from living self-led to Spirit-led, where peace replaces striving and divine insight replaces guesswork.
Life with God Beside Me…and Within Me
When Jesus ascended into Heaven, He promised we would never be left alone. He sent His Spirit — our Helper — to walk with us through the mess of real life.
And I’m so grateful. This world is complicated, confusing…even dangerous. There are traps everywhere — mixed messages, false comforts, hidden fine print.
But the Holy Spirit is my Comforter, Teacher, and Friend:
He reminds me of Scripture when I need it most.
He nudges my heart to pray for someone hurting.
He whispers truth when lies are loud.
He strengthens me when I want to quit.
He has my back — but He also lovingly corrects me when I’m wrong.
He never condemns — only restores. He loves me as I am, yet loves me too much to let me stay there.
I’m not navigating this world alone. God is closer than my own breath.
Bringing It All Together
The world is desperate for spiritual truth — and too often looks in the wrong places.
Real spirituality is not a mystery to uncover — it’s a relationship to embrace.
This month, let’s grow spiritually grounded, not spiritually vague. Curious, not confused. Rooted in the Word, not drifting into “whatever feels right.”
May your December be a time of listening, learning, and knowing Him more deeply.
